According to Humane Society International of 2012, the term “animal testing” refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial/agro-chemicals.
However, multiple studies discovered that animal testing cause harmful effects to animals. Due to the toxic chemicals used during the experiment, it caused severe illnesses, wounds, and bruises that may lead to death. Thus, all procedures used, even the mild ones, have potential in causing the animals to suffer from pain and psychological distress.
